Drunk Driver Kills Newlyweds in Head-On Collision

A 25-year-old Atlantic City man has been charged with driving under the influence (DUI) after a crash that killed a couple in Cumberland County Sunday. The couple had been married less than six months, according to a relative.
New Jersey State Police said the young man was driving a Kia eastbound on Millville Mays Landing Road in Maurice River when he crossed the centerline, hitting the couple’s Honda head-on, killing both.
The Kia driver sustained only moderate injuries. Police have charged him with DUI, reckless driving, and making an unsafe lane change. No additional information has been released, and the crash remains under investigation.
New Jersey has a strict zero-tolerance policy and severe penalties regarding DUI offenses, particularly when resulting in fatalities. An individual convicted of a DUI causing death in New Jersey can face charges of vehicular homicide.
A DUI charge and conviction can have far-reaching negative impacts on other aspects of your life in addition to the legal consequences. You can lose employment, professional licenses, future career opportunities, and strained relationships and finances due to legal fees, fines, and increased insurance premiums. The stigma of a DUI conviction can also lead to social isolation, mental health problems, and a diminished quality of life.
